Steve Murphy is our graphic design expert here at Bex. He’s been with us for over 15 years and provides a crucial role in bringing customer creations to life.
In our latest meet the team interview we talked to Steve about his favourite parts of the role, the reason why he’s stayed with us for so long and why you’ll often see him in the gym or in the cinema when he’s not at work.

Tell us about your role.
I’m the lead graphic designer here at Bex. I do everything in house to do with artwork. My job is essentially to get everything ready for print. So if there is a label the customer wants, I will work with them and draw it up to create the artwork in the way we need to produce it in screen print. We often receive things like a jpeg image from customers, so I will draw it in the format we need.
As well as doing the artwork I create the cut files and adhesive files. Each job has registration marks that the cutting machines use to precisely cut the products, so it’s important that we’re very accurate.
When did you join Bex?
I’ve been with Bex for around 15 years now. I started off in print before moving on to the graphic design side of things. Working in print initially gave me a great overview of the business and it allowed me to gain experience in all areas of the business.
What is your favourite part of the role?
My favourite part of the role is that every day is different, so it keeps it varied and interesting. My role has expanded during my time here, so I’m not just a graphic designer any more, I’m a problem solver, and I enjoy getting immersed in drawing up intricate drawings to bring our customers’ creations to life.
What is it about Bex that’s meant you’ve stayed for 15 years?
I love the team and working with everyone here at Bex and the social side of the job. A lot of us have been here for a long time, so we’re like one big family and it’s a great working environment.
What do you like to do in your free time away from work?
I’m a massive gym goer and recently started CrossFit. I also enjoy hitting a golf ball or throwing a bowling ball occasionally. I’m a big marvel fan so you will see me in the cinema whenever there is a new release. I’m also trying to get back into creating my own art from painting, stencil graffiti or sketching.
